Mysterious girl reading a book

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” I love this quote from Picasso. And once the dust is off, we shine. In my last post, I wrote about how our creative family got started. In this post, I share the expansion of our small group into a dynamic creative team.

After some initial brainstorming, we decided to work on a short film tie-in to my young adult novel, Mind Binder, Book 1 of The Halls of Abaddon Trilogy. Here’s the synopsis that we worked with to base the screenplay on:

High school in hell is not where Jadiel planned to spend his final year as a warden of the state. He was supposed to graduate from Maion, God’s ultra-strict correctional center for spiritually delinquent angels. But when he rebels against the severe rules and conservative attitudes of his guardians, Jadiel is exiled to Abaddon—Lucius’s school for the fallen under the city of San Juan. A superior student who has all the intellectual and creative qualities that Lucius admires, he works diligently at his lessons and rises in the ranks. With power as the endgame, Jadiel applies what he learns in school to the streets of San Juan, twisting minds, reaping souls and making deals to build up Abaddon’s army. But when he is assigned to secure the damnation of a troubled teen from a small town outside the city, one small act of compassion red flags him to Lucius’s watch list. If he is to survive, he must be smart. It is the lessons that Jadiel learns in Abaddon that will make him either one of Lucius’s star students … or his greatest enemy.

Next, we held auditions and selected the cast. Here they are, our fabulous cast!

And then, the rehearsals began. A time of laughter, hard work, and creativity.

What better way to brush off the dust of life than to lose yourself in art. For more pictures of our rehearsals, go to our board The Halls of Abaddon on Pinterest.
